Fun for the Whole Family

Some of these events have been around so long that people who first came as kids now bring their own. Square Dancing in the pavilion is a long-standing tradition, and one that requires no experience whatsoever — you also get to dance to the music of Juno Award-winning local band The Leahys. Line Dancing is something new for the family to enjoy, so come on out and learn a few steps. The Children's Masquerade brings out costumes homemade and store-bought alike, with the kids putting on a show for everyone else to enjoy. One of the oldest traditions on the Lake is the Juniper Island Regatta, which has been a highlight of the summer season since the very first one in 1883. With swimming and canoe races for all ages, it's a fine way to spend the Civic Holiday Monday. And the Mile Swim, running since 1961, offers a real sense of accomplishment in open water, with cheers waiting for everyone who finishes.

Adult Programs

Over the course of the summer, there's a wide variety of programs for adults, starting with workshops on everything from cooking and herbs to health topics and the environment — there is something new on the list each year. One of the highlights of the season is the Ladies Luncheon, steeped in history and a true celebration of the women of Stony. The Writer's Workshop is for anyone looking to sharpen their skills and share ideas with cottagers who share the interest, and new this year is the Book Club — titles are announced well in advance, so you'll have some good recommendations for your dockside reading and plenty to talk about once you've finished. And if you've been looking for someone to play Mahjong with all summer, we've set aside time for exactly that, with tables running throughout the season. Whether you already play or would like to learn, we've got you covered.

Adult Fitness

Cottage life doesn't have to mean putting your fitness routine on hold. Join us for Yoga in the pavilion, where a historic building and a breeze off the lake make for a class that's hard to describe and easy to get hooked on — it's one of our most popular offerings, and it runs three times a week. Or try Lane Swim at the Juniper swim docks, where there's no boat traffic to dodge, just protected water, marked lanes, and a lifeguard on duty.

Arts & Creativity

New in 2026, the Photography Competition gives you a creative outlet for your love of Stony — if you've ever stopped mid-paddle to catch the light on the water, this one's for you. Each year brings a new theme, and winning photos are published in the Islander. Then in August, the Juniper Island Art Festival returns for another year, as it has since 1992, celebrating Stony Lake artists at every stage — from those showing work for the very first time to long-established names. An event not to be missed.
