Swimming

From Parent & Tot to advanced lifesaving to syncho and water polo – there is something for every age!

  • The Parent & Tot program is a great way to build your child’s water confidence while having lots of fun! We use games, songs and simple instruction to help children learn to establish an expectation for adult supervision in and around the water; to enter and exit the water in a safe manner, explore submerging in a rhythmic pattern through bobbing and blowing bubbles; and to kick and float. Ages 4 - 36 months.

  • Red Cross Swim Pre-School is a special program designed for those 3-5 years of age. Swimmers work on basic skills such as floats and glides and kicking, and learn independence in the water.

  • Red Cross Swim Kids is a 10-level program for children aged 5 and up. Children learn to swim, be fit, and stay safe in a fun environment that promotes achieving a personal best and celebrates personal success.

  • Bronze Star provides excellent preparation for success in Bronze Medallion. Participants develop problem-solving and decision-making skills individually and in partners. Candidates learn CPR and develop the lifesaving skills needed to be their own lifeguard. Includes a timed 400 m swim. Prerequisite: None (Swim Patrol experience recommended.) Participants must attend two consecutive weeks of this program. New this year, we will be providing a Monday, Wednesday and Friday program for the sailors who have races on Tuesday and Thursday.

  • Bronze Medallion teaches an understanding of the lifesaving principles embodied in the 4 components of water-rescue education - judgment, knowledge, skill and fitness. Rescuers learn tows and carries, and defence methods and releases in preparation for challenging rescues of increased risk involving conscious and unconscious victims of various types. Lifesavers develop stroke efficiency and endurance in a 500 m timed swim. Prerequisite: 13 years of age OR current Bronze Star Certification. Participants must attend the full four-week program.

  • Bronze Cross is designed for lifesavers who want the challenge of more advanced training including an introduction to safe supervision in aquatic facilities. Bronze Cross is a prerequisite for all advanced training programs including National Lifeguard and Instructor certification. Includes a timed 600 m swim. Prerequisite: Bronze Medallion (need not be current but copy of certificate must be shown at first class). Participants must attend the full four-week program.

  • Synchro is a fun, recreational program for children who are comfortable swimming in deep water and can tread water for 5 minutes. Participants will develop synchronized swimming skills and work in a team to create a routine.

  • Water Polo is a fun, recreational program which is new for the 2018 summer! Children who are comfortable in the water can learn some of the fundamental skills of water polo. Perfect for those who want to try something new and have some fun!

  • Mile Swim Training is a supervised program which will develop form, speed and race strategies in preparation for the annual Lech Memorial Mile Swim, held this year on Sunday August 6th. Note: Registration is not limited to a specific date - you may swim on any weekday during the posted hours.

  • Fitness Swim (formerly Adult Swim) is a supervised program for fitness swimmers, held at the outer swim dock. Note: Registration is not limited to a specific date - you may swim on any weekday during the posted hours. Canoeing

Private Lessons are an opportunity for children and adults to receive one on one or small group lessons from our instructors.  This could be to obtain Red Cross levels, stroke improvement or an chance to improve your water polo or synchro skills.
