Approval of the 2023 AGM minutes
• Motion: To approve the 2023 AGM minutes.
• Moved by Chad Tranter, seconded by Meg Proctor.

President’s report – Chad Tranter
• Completed his first year as President – described the role as a privilege and an honour.
• Thanked the dedicated Board working diligently behind the scenes.
• ASLC remains a strong and connected community of volunteers – continued call for increased involvement and member engagement. Juniper Island remains the central hub of activity.
• Shared key updates from the past year and a look ahead:
o Successful transition from MindBody to CourtReserve for program registration.
o Ongoing ASLC engagement in broader community issues, including the proposed Lovesick Lake development – more detail provided in the Environment section.
Financial report – Chad Tranter (on behalf of Anne Bonnycastle)
• Total 2023 revenue: $169,000 – down approximately $11,000 from prior year.
• Revenue from memberships, programs, sponsorships, the Islander, etc.
• 2023 expenses: $157,000 – up due to staffing costs (hired staff before enrolment numbers were known).
• Surplus: $13,000 – slimmer than previous year.
• 2023 capital expenses: $46,000 (primarily new swim docks).
• End-of-year bank balance: $100,000.
• Program revenue covered program costs, with ~$8,000 surplus.
• Membership fees fund core operations
• FOCA representative present – members reminded to review FOCA benefits sheet.
• Call-out to Kate Bonnycastle for her volunteer contributions as editor of The Islander – received a big round of applause.
Social update – Jenny Chambers
• Distributed a printed summer highlights card – encouraged members to keep it on their fridge.
• Key highlights include:
o Wednesday family square dances with the Leahy family.
o Ladies’ Lunch at Kathy Dembroski’s cottage (by car or boat).
o Book reading, Indigenous talk (July 17), Stony Lake Sprint.
o Art show organized by Amy Finch.
o Two upcoming “cook and eat” cooking events.
o Stony Prom event at the Store.
o Grandparents' Tea, Wing Night, Mile Swim, Masquerade.
o Dinner/ Dance at SLYC.
o Yoga and fitness classes – register via CourtReserve.
Programs update – Morley Birdsell-Farrow
• Back for a second year – busy with program planning and CourtReserve transition.
• Returning and new offerings: PCS, swimming, water polo.
• New programs: Babysitting course, Mahjong lessons (popular – sign up early).
• Water Safety Day and Emergency First Aid course – open to all ages.
• Team: Sara Hodges, Jonny Armstrong, and new Tech Director Will Rush.
Property update – Peter Watson
• Ongoing challenges post-COVID – difficult to get vendors/ labour to the island.
• Swim docks completed.
• Washroom refurbishments are under board discussion.
• Property needs remain ongoing – importance of maintaining volunteer and financial support.
• Board to discuss timing for washroom improvements.
Environment update – Chad Tranter & Carrie Scace
• Abbie unable to attend – Carrie introduced as Environmental Council, Communications & Assoc. Liaison.
• ASLC is committed to environmental stewardship – preserving Stony Lake for future generations.
• Lovesick Lake development:
o Large member turnout at the public meeting (75% were Stony Lakers – round of applause).
o Public presence helped pause the project.
o Emphasized importance of lake capacity studies.
o Councilors (not city planners) make the final decision – having a public voice matters.
o ASLC cannot formally appeal, but can present a delegation before a vote.
o Issue: Lack of First Nations consultation – representative from Burleigh Falls was present.
o Proposal includes 38 trailer park sites – no agreement reached.
o Strong membership support for advocating a lake capacity study.
• Environmental Council’s update:
o ASLC works with seven other lake associations to ensure representation at environmental forums.
o Septic inspection program in Douro-Dummer suspended after local opposition – ASLC continues to advocate for inspections.
o Water quality and shoreline health remain priorities – working with Kawartha Land Trust.
o July 27 (2 pm): Talk on shoreline restoration – educational opportunity.
o Funds from the Stony Lake Sprint will support KLT’s land acquisition next to Jeffrey Reserve.
o Urging early Sprint registration to help with t-shirt orders and volunteer planning.
Store operators – Bobby Bart and Blythe Brooks-Hill
• Back as store operators – excited for the season.
• New menu items: Chicken tenders, buffalo wraps.
• New merchandise: Quarter zips, crewnecks, tote bags, wine glasses, mugs.
• Fashion show held to showcase this year’s merchandise – well received with a round of applause.
• Thanks to merchandise models and to Tory Brooks-Hill and Andrew Taylor (Store Liaisons) for their support.
SYLC update – Greg Plant
• Thank you to Chad and ASLC board – strong collaboration with SYLC.
• Operations and membership:
o Special thanks to Andrew Parker and Tom Pitfield for their work behind the scenes on CourtReserve.
o Welcome to new operations staff and appreciation to all program leads and board members for their contributions throughout the season.
o Tennis Directors: Jody Scotchmer and Alex Brooks-Hill.
o Head Tennis Pros: Claudia Voicu and Ben Rush.
o Head Sailing Instructor: Sydney Rankin.
• Programming:
o Revamped tennis programs based on community feedback.
o Adult and junior clinics designed to meet all levels.
o Pickleball expanded and thriving.
o July 23: Pro exhibition match at noon.
• Sailing:
o 16 certified instructors.
o Morning beginner classes, afternoon advanced.
o Weekend racing open to all – club boats available upon request.
• Facilities:
o Expanded docks.
o Court three and the pickleball court resurfacing planned.
o Additional storage added to the hut.
