Welcome to Ston(e)y Lake!

We are seasonal and permanent residents bound together by one thing: a deep love of this lake.

Our story begins on the water. In 1883, paddlers from across North America gathered at Juniper Island for the American Canoe Association Regatta — and something stuck. Thirteen years later, in 1896, the ASLC was born. Read our Land Acknowledgement below.

Today we remain a non-profit, run entirely by a volunteer Board of Directors. We host summer programming — daily, weekly, and seasonal — for all ages, from first-time swimmers to lifelong lakers. We care for the grounds and facilities on Juniper Island. And we keep watch on the issues that will shape Ston(e)y Lake's future: the environment, development, and water quality.

But membership means far more than signing up for programs.  Past generations kept this lake healthy long enough for all of to fall in love with it. Membership is how that gets passed forward — supporting the environment, the advocacy, and the care of Juniper Island for the kids on the dock now, and the ones not yet born.

You don't have to participate in a program or sit on a committee to make a difference. Joining is the difference.

Some families have belonged for generations. Others joined last summer. Some have owned their cottage for forty years; some rent the same two weeks every August and count down the days.

However you come to the lake, you belong here. All are welcome — and every one of you is needed.

LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

The Association of Ston(e)y Lake Cottagers Inc. respectfully acknowledges that we are situated on the Treaty 20 Michi Saagiig territory and the traditional territory covered by the Williams Treaties First Nations which include: Alderville, Beausoleil, Curve Lake, Georgina Island, Hiawatha, Rama and Scugog Island First Nations.

This area has been, and continues to be home to First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples who recognize the importance of protecting land and water for the generations yet to come. We share in that recognition and will continue to take part in efforts to protect the environment where we all live, work, and play.  

As a community-based organization, we are on a journey towards truth and reconciliation and offer this acknowledgement as one step in that journey. We continue to engage in learning and understanding so that we can move forward in the spirit of respect and reciprocity.
