Transition from Red Cross to lifesaving society

On January 1, 2023, the Red Cross closed its swimming and lifeguarding programs in order to focus on surging humanitarian demands in other areas such as disaster and pandemic response, opioid harm reduction, and caregiving for seniors. The ASLC transitioned to the Lifesaving Society of Canada for swim instruction in Summer 2023.

What does that mean for ASLC members and their children? Although the titles of swim levels will change, the actual content will remain virtually the same. In other words, your child will pick up where they left off.

What do you need to do now? First and foremost, use the graphic chart below that shows the link from each Red Cross Level to the new corresponding Lifesaving Society Level to determine your child’s new level PRIOR to registration. Next, here you’ll find FAQ’s to answer your questions. See below for a clear graphic of the changes.

There are NO changes to Bronze Star, Medallion, and Cross or Parent & Tot 1-3 and Preschool 1-5.

To reiterate, PLEASE determine your child’s NEW level prior to registering for Summer 2024 so that you register them in the correct program.
