The Juniper Island Store

A tradition for over a 100 years, the Juniper Island store began as way to supply cottagers with the basics.  Over the years, it has grown into one of the island's favourite gathering spots. Today you can buy a meal including classics like the Early Riser and the Juniper Island Burger, enjoy a great coffee, cold drinks, candy or an ice cream cone - a tradition that traces all the way back to the open-air ice cream parlor and lunch counter that opened here in 1910. And every summer brings a new run of Juniper-branded merchandise worth stopping in for.

The Store has always been run by Stony Lakers themselves. Every two years, a team of older teens and early university students takes the helm — a rare chance to run a real business, and one of the most sought-after opportunities on the island. It begins with a business plan and an interview with the board in late summer. The team chosen then spends the fall and winter preparing: planning the menu, ordering the merchandise, and getting ready for two summers behind the counter.

This role is truly a dream for us, and we are committed to leaving a lasting, positive impact on everyone who walks through the doors of the store. As operators, we have a unique opportunity to develop our entrepreneurial skills while giving back to the Stony Lake community - a place that has given us so much. We are incredibly excited for the summer ahead and to contribute to creating unforgettable memories for everyone.
